The Data Quality Challenge

“Over our 108 years, Donaldson has grown organically and through acquisitions, which has fuelled an explosion of data creation and consumption. For most of this history, data has been created to support individual business objectives using unique definitions, and was not commonly shared across locations, business units, or functions.  As products and customers progress through their lifecycle, data is created and changed in various systems to ensure that our business processes are executed as designed.  Variation in these business processes and systems has led to data inconsistencies.  As a result, the business cannot easily find, share, trace, understand, or roll-up product and customer data across the organisation.

Prior to this project, very few data quality controls were in place.  As a result, there was limited effort to cleanse and de-duplicate customer data.”

Data Quality Solution

DQ for Dynamics was implemented with our CRM Dynamics 365 solution.  We implemented fuzzy searching logic to identify duplicate records.  We also partnered with our data stewards to define rules to:

  • Identify the master (golden) records
  • Auto-populate the master records with data field values from duplicate records
  • Merge to a master record and inactivate the duplicate records

It took us 6-8 months to install DQ for Dynamics and configure it to meet our needs. “
