ICO launches new child data initiative

 1st Feb 2010

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has announced plans to provide data protection advice to schoolchildren.

As well as giving guidance on sharing information, the ICO will highlight the risks involved in offering too many details.
A number of schools are involved in the initiative, including Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Cheshire.

Jonathan Bamford, Head of Strategic Liaison at the ICO, said millions of youngsters are posting details about themselves online every day, with few aware of the consequences.

"This campaign gives us a unique opportunity to reach an important group of people to provide them with simple, user-friendly advice in a manner and environment familiar to them," he added.
